Wait woah woah woah woah fuckin woah. You didn’t just make the same mistake Hobbes did and think Math is a system of symbol manipulation didja? Symbols just stand in for ideas, and reasoning about math is as creative, un-constrained, and abstract as anything. Even if Math were merely the logical consequences of ZFC it wouldn’t be symbol manipulation.
There’s more room for being a formalist in computation and logic but I wouldn’t want to occupy it. Logic should at least somewhat aspire to model good reasoning.
